The Art of Giving

I'm very pleased that a photograph of mine was chosen for the cover of the invitation to the Philadelphia Bar Foundation's 33rd Annual Andrew Hamilton Benefit. A 16x20" gelatin silver (black-and-white) print of the image, signed and framed, will be auctioned off at the event, which will be held at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts on November 19th.

After seeing the famed Polaroid Collection on view at Sotheby's recently, just before the auction, I was inspired to post a couple images of my own from my archive: Nude/Silhouette, 1978, a Vintage SX-70, and Half &Half, 1978, a Vintage B&W Polaroid, and a collage of sorts.

My short video (actually a sequence of 266 moving stills), titled "It's a Sign", will be showing at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts' Morris Gallery September 29 - October 4.

The piece, along with works by six other artists, is part of the "Summer Shorts" series curated by Julien Robson.

“Through the Lens: Studies in Photography” @ Dickinson College

In a January posting, I noted that a portfolio of my work, "Little Rituals", produced in 2002, was on display at Bryant University in Rhode Island.

The same portfolio was exhibited in March at The Trout Gallery at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. The exhibition, titled “Through the Lens: Studies in Photography”, also included photographs by Andy Warhol, Duane Michals, Elliot Erwitt, Eadweard Muybridge, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Ralph Gibson, Bill Jacobson, Pete Turner, Tom Baril, Kristin Capp, Lucien Clergue and David Seltzer.

I'm very pleased that my photograph "Two Faces" appeared on the cover of the exhibition catalogue; a photograph by Pete Turner is on the back cover.

Photo-installation, The Independent, Philadelphia

In my newest photographic installation, "Keys to the City," for The Independent hotel, I have highlighted some of Philadelphia's best-known landmarks, such as the Liberty Bell, the LOVE sculpture, the Cira Centre, and the William Penn sculpture in Welcome Park.

The installation is featured on the exterior façade of the hotel, as well as in the hotel’s interior vestibule. It was a great pleasure working with the Hersha Group, which owns The Independent. The hotel, which opened in June of 2008, is located at 1234 Locust Street in Center City.

"Little Rituals" portfolio

In 2002, a portfolio of eight photographs from my "Little Rituals" series was produced. Bryant University in Rhode Island was one of the institutions that acquired one of the portfolios. The photographs are currently on display at the university.

Portraits of Women: Opening December 11th, 2008

I'm delighted to be part of a wonderful group exhibition at Jeannie Freilich Contemporary in Chelsea, New York. There are vintage pieces in the show from one of my earliest and most important bodies of work, Soliloquy. These images are included in my monograph, PhotoPlay.

The gallery is located at 530 West 25th Street on the 5th floor. The show runs from December 4 through January 3, 2009, and the Opening Reception is from 6pm - 8 pm on Thursday, December 11th. I hope to see a lot of old and new friends at the Opening, and hope that many more will make it to the show!

Flower Workshop, "A Closer Look"

I'm pleased to announce that I'll be conducting a workshop for the Katonah Museum of Art on August 14th. It will be an informal program, which will include a short Powerpoint presentation of flower photographs by both famous and unknown photographers, followed by a shooting session and a review/critique of the images made. Katonah Museum of Art

Here are a few photographs from my recent opening at the Katonah Museum of Art.

The photographs of me with my friends were taken by Margaret Fox. The first of those pictures, in which I'm standing with my PhotoTotem, features Maralyn Carr, who runs the museum's Shop in a Box, and David Wolfe, who helped me deliver and install the exhibition. The second picture features David Wolfe and Gail Bryan, the museum's Public Programs Coordinator. Gail was instrumental in bringing my work to the museum. Both, by the way, are wearing my Fabrick neckties -- with great style I might add!
